The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting academic motivation from the perspective of male students in the first year of secondary school in Fouman city. This study is a qualitative-descriptive approach and is applied in terms of purpose. The statistical population of the study was all male students in the first year of secondary school in Fouman city in the academic year 1402-1403. The statistical sample of this study was 36 students using purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using a semi-structured interview tool and based on the theoretical saturation technique. Data analysis was carried out using an open coding method; in this way, all interviews were recorded, their texts were handwritten and, after being transferred to WORD software, were analyzed in MAXQDA2020 software. The results of this study show that academic motivation from the perspective of students is affected by internal and external factors. In the context of internal factors: specific goals, mental confusion, interest, self-confidence, discipline and planning, and in the context of external factors: school, economic conditions, teacher, family, friends - peers, society - culture, cyberspace,
