Analyzing and representing the lived experiences of elementary teachers about descriptive evaluation

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The main objective of this study is to analyze the experiences of primary school teachers about the strengths and weaknesses of the descriptive evaluation and corrective solutions in this field. Methods: The dominant method in this study was a qualitative approach based on phenomenological type. The study population consisted of primary teachers Aran Bidgol city that through purposive sampling, thirty of them were selected. Using semi-structured in depth interviews, intended data were collected. The obtained data and information were analyzed based on the seven-step method of Collaizi.Data were analyzed using coding techniques and three criteria of validity and acceptability, reliability and scalability approval was obtained. Findings: The results showed that from viewpoints of elementary teachers, descriptive evaluation despite having the positive functions was faced with a series of fundamental and operational problems. Conclusion: This research based upon theoretical and research foundations and the views of teachers, offers a series of suggestions in order to better function of descriptive evaluation and attainment of its intended objectives and raising effectiveness of educational system.
